Brimpts is an excellent walking venue for individuals, families, letter boxers and groups. As of July 2002, we have attained silver medal status in the Duke of Cornwall 'Habitat Awards' in recognition of our efforts to improve biodiversity on the farm. We host a number of long and short scenic routes which are testimony to our efforts to preserve flora, fauna and wildlife. Guided farm walks can be arranged for education purposes covering various topics such as ongoing environmental, landscape and farming projects.

The farm-based walks start opposite the farmhouse. Maps and leaflets are available from the on-site Information Point.

The Pond Walk (20 minutes): A gentle stroll on the tea rooms' door step to justify your cream tea! The track around the ponds is suitable for disabled access. The walk circuits a series of cascading pools frequented by a resident Grey Heron and a family of Canada Geese.

The Field Walk: (approximately 1.5 hours): More of a hike than a stroll, this does incorporate some steep inclines (it is possible to walk the first half and then retrace your steps back to the farmhouse for vital refreshment)! The walk drops down the river plateau to the East Dart River and bypasses the infamous 'Dolly's Cott' ruin; home to a local beauty reputedly courted by the Prince Regent. The walk then proceeds uphill (steeply) to authoress Beatrice Chase's 'Seven Sisters'. Ancient field plans are in evidence as you look towards Babeny. The walk provides excellent views of Brimpts' Newtake and the North Moor.

The ESA Trail: (approximately 2.5 to 3 hours): An 'ESA' is an Environmentally Sensitive Area. Dartmoor ESA aims to protect and enhance the area's special landscape, wildlife and historic values through the adoption of beneficial livestock farming systems and land management. The walk takes you through ancient hay meadows, newly planted oak and ash tree plantations and along the banks of the East Dart River.

The Tin Mine Walk: (approximately 3 to 4 hours): A fascinating walk around the remains of three principal areas of mining on the farm. The trail is about 3.5 miles long and enables the walker to identify original features such as adits, clapper bridges, leats, a restored water wheel and much more. Bluebells carpet the forest floor in late spring making this walk a firm favourite. Stout footwear is advisable! Guided walks can be arranged for real enthusiasts through the Dartmoor Tinworking Research Group (contact Brimpts Farm for further details) but comprehensive self-guide leaflets are also available.
